Graduate Research
For my Master's research at the University of Connecticut, I worked with Dr. Anita Morzillo and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) to study the human dimensions of human-black bear conflicts. I conducted two mail surveys of Connecticut residents focused on their attitudes towards, experiences with, and management preferences for black bears. Then I interviewed local stakeholders including law enforcement, town managers, and agriculturalists, and ran focus groups with residents. This qualitative portion of the study allowed me to better understand the policy context and lived experiences of people interacting with black bears. Data were spatially analyzed to understand how resident attitudes varied across the Connecticut landscape.
